Reading & District Model Aircraft Club
Indoor Fly-in Madesjki Dome Reading 15 Nov 2008-12-01
This was a new venture for the club, we have flown in a bus garage in the past, touch and goes on bus roofs and low passes through the inspection pits! This venue is different. The Dome is the Reading FC Academy training centre. It comprises of a 60M by 40M covered Astroturf like Soccer pitch. The roof is a bit Nissan hut shaped and the covering is a type of treated canvas. Not fantastically high about the height of an average sports hall at the apex. On the day some 32 people turned up to fly for the two hours we had booked for this first event. There was plenty of action and a wide range of models on show from IR controlled ‘toys’ to a very large helicopter. Of course shockies and park flyers predominated. With the odd Dragon and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang courtesy of David Theunissen. Interestingly 35 MHz radio still predominated, so flying off the peg provided a measure of control over the number of aircraft in the air at once. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the experience and future events are being planned for the New Year. Lessons learned, placing the flight along the long side of the building may make better use of the space and limiting power to 150 watts should avoid large models competing with and perhaps intimidating flyers with more normal indoor types. Here is a selection of photos from the event. To get a better view of the dome visit WWW.4-max.co.uk/ and click on the Fascinate video. Photos courtesy of Ray Stuart.
