Election of officers

As is usual a full committee must be elected for the coming year. With the exception of Peter Talbot the current committee members have declared themselves available for re-election. Any nominations for committee members may be made in advance or at the meeting. If it is proposed to put forward a person who is unable to attend the meeting then that person’s written agreement to the nomination must be provided.

Membership

Fees

As discussed at the last AGM, further increases are required. It is thus proposed that :

  • The annual club subscription for senior members rise by £5 (to £38) plus the BMFA fee.
  • The annual club subscription for junior members rise by £3 (to £8) plus the BMFA fee.
  • The annual subscription for retired members remain at £12 plus the BMFA fee
  • The club joining fee for new adult members (senior or retired members) rise to £25. There will be no joining fee for junior members.

Joining periods

It is proposed that :

  • new members of the club shall only be allowed to join during the months of January, May and August. Anyone wishing to join outside these periods will be placed on a waiting list and contacted when the next joining period is open. Note that this will also apply to any current members who allow their membership to lapse by failing to rejoin before the end of January (i.e. they will need to wait until May to join and will also pay a joining fee).

Committee Meeting

Minutes of Committee Meeting 13.11.02

Apologies : Mike Russell, Andrew Stretton, Martin Dance, Steve Collis

Minutes of previous meeting: Accepted

Matters arising:

We have still not received an invoice for the rental of the Dreadnought flying field.

Subscriptions for 2003

There was considerable discussion, the results of which can be seen in the AGM agenda above. Currently the financial position of the club is good but the costs incurred in acquiring and setting up the new field together with the annual rental are not supportable in the long term at the current membership rates. As discussed at the last AGM it was felt better to apply relatively small increases each year rather than a big jump when the situation became desperate. The proposed new membership fees are still lower than those of most other clubs in the area.

Nominations for committee

Peter Talbot will not be able to continue as a committee member. Other current committee members have indicated their willingness to stand again. To date no further nominations have been received.

Motions for AGM

Two motions were proposed with regard to Membership Fees and Joining Periods. See AGM Agenda above.

Events

  • The Beale Park event did not go ahead due to the abysmal weather on the day. It is hoped that there will be another opportunity in the Spring.
  • Dave Belcher will be organising another Indoor flying session at Reading Buses. The date is yet to be decided but will probably be fairly early in the New Year.

Shooting the breeze

Just a short edition of Windsock this time, mainly to get the agenda for the AGM published. There’s not really been very much happening other than weather. Did anyone actually go to Beale Park on Stormy Sunday ?

Junior Members - parents please note

Following on from the previous committee meeting a letter containing the following has been sent to the parents/guardians of all junior members :

I would like to advise you on behalf of the RADMAC Committee that under the current legislation pertaining to junior members under the age of 16 years, the club is unable to accept responsibility of your child whilst at the flying field.

Please be aware therefore that juniors can only attend the club’s flying field under the custody of either yourselves or another adult identified on the day of attendance. It is your responsibility to ensure that the adult is in agreement with this arrangement and will remain with the junior to the end of the session.

Indoor weather again

It looks like Dave will be able to set up another indoor session at Reading Bus Garage, an excellent venue. Since it will probably be early in the New Year this should give you something interesting for your Chrissie Present list. GWS Tiger Moths fly very well as do Pico/Lite Sticks and Mini-IFOs. If you like a little building, the And Now is excellent. It and several other free plans can be found on David Theunissen’s website at http://www.flyelectric.ukgateway.net/ or if you’re not Internet-enabled, let me know and I can provide a printed version.

Indoor in the clubhouse

Since the RTP flying went down reasonably well (O.K. I enjoyed it !) we may organise one or two more sessions for the dark winter evenings. If you are interested in making yourself a model I’ll publish a couple of simple plans on the club website. We could also have a few competitions e.g. spot landing, under/over limbo or even combat. Like last time I’ll have a few spare motors to borrow so you only need some wood (or foam or Depron etc). If you’re interested please let me know.

Trainer leads etc

An add-on to the comments in the last edition. I don’t think this is a problem in the club at the moment but for years we have all thought that Hitec transmitters were compatible with Futaba transmitters when training. Apparently this is not so with their latest transmitter models. If you connect them together using a Futaba lead I am told by the US Hitec contact that damage may result. So if you have a Hitec transmitter you must use the Hitec training lead and be careful to connect it the correct way round (it has master and slave ends unlike the Futaba lead).

RDMAC online

The club website address is http://www.rdmac.org.uk If you have problems getting in to the site using that address try adding /. at the end i.e. http://www.rdmac.org.uk/. That seems to solve most problems though I can't find anyone who understands why.

The discussion forum is still available where anyone can post messages, questions etc about club or general modelling matters. Links from all the website main pages. Since it has hardly been used I've no idea how long it will stay available. You know what they say “Use it or lose it.”

The general email address for the club is club@rdmac.org.uk

The Bit at the End

Any articles etc for the next newsletter to whoever the newsletter editor might be after the AGM, or to me and I’ll pass them on if necessary.
